so heres me

im violetneo, but you can call me neo for short. im 21 years old and im making this site since i want a place to put my thoughts somewhere and show my gaming achievements. although currently, its only touhou shmups. ill be adding non-touhou shmups down the line. by the way, pronouns are he/him and they/them.
so what are you into?
currently, the big things im into are the following
- touhou project
- xenoblade chronicles
- also includes xenosaga and xenogears but not to the same extent as xenoblade
i do have other interests but these are the ones currently worth explaining in greater detail. ill list those after explaining these two, starting with...
xenoblade chronicles (and related titles)
predictably, i did get first exposed to xenoblade via smash bros. i mained shulk in sm4sh when i first saw his monado arts special and thought it was the greatest thing ever. i still main him to this day!
however, i didnt play xenoblade until around the late-2010s to the 2020s (memory is foggy here). this is despite me owning a new 3ds. admittedly, im not that open to discussing my interests to my family, so thats why it took me so long to do it.
the way i played it was through dolphin emulator on a 2016 gaming laptop, and the performance was subpar on the settings i was running it at. im not joking. however, i eventually did beat it at around 2021. my god was it worth it.
after beating xenoblade 1, i think i was already aware of how xenoblade was related to xenosaga and xenogears, and i decided to play xenogears next. needless to say, it was wack but also worth it. thats a disgustingly short way to put it.
for xenosaga, fortunately im all set and already got a playthrough going. and thats where things are today for xenosaga.
fortunately, ive beaten all xenoblade games except xenoblade x, which i had wii u playthrough of but as of this writing, i dont have a switch copy yet so i cant really resume xenoblade x. as in staring a whole new playthrough on it on a new console.
so no, ive not done all of the xeno series yet but im somewhat close to finishing it up. just need xenoblade x and GET OUT OF EPISODE 1 OF XENOSAGA AND ACTUALLY FINISH THE WHOLE TRILOGY. now we talk about- wait i forgot future connected is a thing. guess ill get a copy of XB1 DE just to do that. NOW we talk about...
touhou project (the series youve seen everywhere but know nothing about)
touhou for me was in the background for a lot of life. ive seen the bad apple, beloved tomboyish girl, night of nights, and un owen was her remixes. however, ive gone a long time without knowing a lot of touhou outside of it being the game where theres a bajillion bullets on-screen, it being impossible to complete, and having four songs.
if you want to know an approximate time length on how long i knew touhou for, id say at least a decade. im not kidding, its for that long and i didnt bother researching what exactly touhou was.
until i decided to do on late 2023 to early 2024. which led me to playing touhou 4. which is actually a game made for a computer popular in japan called PC-98 and the subtitle for this game is lotus land story. i didnt start with eosd, the game everyone knows. i started the game where bad apple is.
but using touhou 4 as my first touhou game? honestly not the worst choice but also not the best. its decently easy but still fun. ive not gotten a 1CC yet on it though lol.
so when did i get into the windows games? well around march is when i got into the windows games and my god, after playing them. while some are actually fun to play, others are meh at best, "dont give me this again" at worst, playing them recontextualized so many things i saw on the internet.
the rat girl you thought was funny? thats nazrin from touhou 12.
the american fairy with that weird torch? thats clownpiece from touhou 15.
the girl with green hair who keeps dreading the passage of time? thats sanae from touhou 10.
and the purple girl you saw in that one nightcore video you watched sometime around the 2010s? thats hatate from touhou 12.5.
and most importantly, a good chunk of those "anime" songs you heard on youtube? expect most, if not all of those come from these games.
if you wanna know how much touhou is everywhere, search up the ost for any of the games. now start thinking where youve heard that before. itll probably be alot.
now to actually talk about the games.
admittedly, i have played a few shmups before getting into touhou, so my skills arent starting from zero when coming into touhou. for what my curent favorite game is, its touhou 12! im aware its status right now is that its widely considered to be the hardest game and some people hate the game with every fiber of their being, while others adore the game for how well thought out the gimmick is, making stage routing one of the most fun to do in the game in a series where its all about the elaborate boss patterns. my least favorite is touhou 6: eosd, which is going to shock some people. ill explain more in a future blog post later for both games, with ufo coming in first but for me, its the most basic one in a bad way, and some of the patterns dont seem fun doing.
another favorite of mine from the touhou series is the last spin off fighting game entry before touhou 13: touhou 12.3 hisoutensoku. despite everything looking wack, its definitely gonna be one of the most unique fighting game experiences youll ever have. i feel like neutral is far easier to grasp than any other fighting game i played, including smash by the way! and the deck customization along with the simplistic inputs and the weather system, which you can manipulate to your advantage, makes it one of the few fighting games im actively commiting to. if youre wondering who i main, its iku. im sorry, i like zoners.
other things im into
while these vary in terms of how my impacted me in general, theyre still worth listing.
- castlevania
- played it during the late 2010s and you can tell i still care about it with my music selection and even my minecraft skin
- electronic music
- obviously tons of video game music but also chiptune music and songs made in a music tracker, programs that let you make music with your instrunment samples and place notes in a sequence listed in the GUI
- i also like ambient, techno, and trance, but i dont have many original songs in selection
- fighting games
- currently my favorite video game pvp genre, you can thank MUGEN and smash bros for getting me into the genre with the formers infinite matchup potential and the latters unique format that can show some extremely fast-paced gameplay thanks to the increased emphasis on movement and stage selection
- anime
- actually got into this late into my life, which is 2020.
- while i havent watched that many or some of the more significant ones in the media, it basically changed my whole identity for the better.
so anything else you wanna close with?
ill continue to use this place to yap more and of course, show the world my achievements. but also, ill keep things updated when the time comes to do so. i hope my time here will be spent well.
